I remember the day I had brought a young sapling of jasmine
It was an absolute delight to see it grow
With the first rays of sunlight
It would greet me with a warm “hi” and a smile
Dancing merrily and swaying itself to and fro
I saw it’s face
Like a young baby …
All smiles and dimples
It was a joy to be with,
Enough to put out mercilessly,
Any leftover miserable thoughts !
My baby !!
On my way to work
It would try to feel me all over
Kissing and brushing against me
Like a baby who awaited
The cajoling n cooing !
Staring shamelessly at me
Every morning and every breezy , moonlit night
Juz to show that the very first bud
Was about to blossom
Yess..Giving life to another
It could be beautiful !!
And then came a day when I placed
A strand of beautiful jasmines
Out of the carefully rolled in ball
At the feet of the supreme abode…
How glad it was to have found eternal peace !
I juz analysed…
Isn’t the Guru a Gardener for all of us
Don’t we all stare shamelessly at him like a jasmine
For small mercies at all times
And shamelessly brag
For all the material pursuits or small achievements
He managed to shower on us through His blessings
Albeit our thanksgivings for all the small mercies
With a big ‘Thankyou’ note and a constant stare
To keep showering the same in the near future too ;-))
Yes !! Inspite of all the weaklings,
He embraces us with his gentle hugs and benevolent touch
In hours of crisis
Everytime we remember him …
He comes out as the most reliable ‘Agony Aunt’ or ‘Uncle’ ;-))
Have you ever planted a seed or seeds in soil and watched in amazement as tiny chutes begin to emerge from the soil and then eventually grow into a healthy, stable plant? Did you know that besides needing water, the type of soil that plants grow in and what actually goes on in soil determines how well plants grow?
A properly planted tree or shrub will be more tolerant of adverse conditions and require much less management than one planted incorrectly.
Our very first Guru’s are our parents..
Who mould the clay of our lives
The seeds of our lives germinated through
The thought process evolving around them…
They give the firm foundation of the right soil
For us to stand on
“Character is destiny” …
But wasn’t that a gift which we inherited
Through our genes too !!
Parents undoubtedly shape the character
And per se our destinies …
Our teachers in school and colleges also
Help shape the course of our lives.
But our Guru(the supreme teacher of all),
The sacred conduit for wisdom
Comes to our rescue like a landscape designer a k a Gardener
Changing the wilds on rocks into an ornamental garden
The earthy mortals bodies change into a victory garden
With his enlightened presence
He is there to admire our beautiful silhouettes, in every season
And unlike others, doesn’t values us for our lovely flowers and shade
For he knows that each species
Needs to be pruned properly, to highlight its natural shape.
Guru comes to our rescue by pruning the woody bodies
And changing life into an ornamental garden.
Marking our days with the different eternal fragrances
Filling the void within us.
That pure beam of light, who with his caressing touch
Changes the weeds into wildflowers
Guides us to the right path
Where decadent pleasures are not the sole pursuit of life.
The sand dunes take the shape
Of a beautiful oasis with Guru’s presence
Amidst the sultry heat waves of difficulties
In the dry and parched desert of our lives
This is my ode to my Guru !
I am remembering you today
And I hope that you remember me too ….
My humble reverence to you …
In the words of Adi Shankara ,
“Guru Brahma, Guru Vishnu Guru Devo, Maheshwara.
Guru Sakshath Parambrahma, Tasmai Shri Gurave Namaha”
